If you follow me on instagram you’ll have seen that the hubbie and I indulged in a spot of furniture painting last weekend. I’m really inspired by Scandi style at the moment, books like Happy Home by Rice creator Charlotte Hedeman Gueniau and blogs like Bright Bazaar have been a great influence. I just love the white with pops of colour look, it’s so cheerful!
Our open plan kitchen dinner has darkish duck egg cupboards a wooden table, chairs and settle bench. We didn’t want to touch the settle so decided to paint the table white, one chair red and one chair in the same duck egg paint as the cupboards. It’s quite dark in this end of the kitchen diner with the black slate floor so the white table really helps lighten it up.
So, this is what the table and chairs looked like pre-makeover (this pic was taken for Style at Home magazine a couple of years ago)…
And this is how they look now!
The hubbie painted the table and chairs (with a brush rather than spray paint in case you’re interested) and I recovered the seat pads with some spare upholstery fabric I had stashed in the loft. (If you’re wondering about the manifesto posters, we made them more than two years ago so really need updating!)
And there’s more! Our bathroom has a blue suite, which isn’t the worst colour, but we’d prefer white. However, we aren’t able to fit out a brand new bathroom any time soon so instead we’ve decided to embrace the blue and bring more colour into the bathroom! This pic is another one from the Style at Home shoot and shows our delightful suite.
The mirror frame is going to be painted yellow, and opposite it, which you can’t see above, is a shelf with hooks which was a distressed cream colour but has now also had the dark duck egg treatment!
I bought the towel to see if yellow goes with the blue shades and I think it really does. There’s a wooden cabinet which is going to be painted yellow too, and then a brightly coloured shower curtain will finish off the makeover! I will post more pics when it’s done, whenever that might be…
